Controlling Your Startup Business Expenses
page 2 of 8
Phone
Again plan to have 6 to 12 months for this expense. Get at least a dedicated business lines: one for voice, and one to share fax and Internet access. This is a tricky one to judge. If you have a home office, you home line can be used in the beginning as a fax or Internet connection – all you need is small box which determines what kind of device is calling you and routes the call to a fax machine or answering machine. It’s a kind of switch available online store which allows for line sharing. Look too setup a high-speed Internet connection as it will save you a lot of time which will cut your expenses and what you charge your customers.
Stationery and more
A business card is almost a must. Depending on how importance your company’s image is, it may be necessary to have professionally designed stationery as a startup business cost. If you can get away with with something slightly less fancy, opt to buy a good quality printer (nothing cheap) and format your documents to print you logo and address at the top and the rest follows. The expense of a quality printer will be paid back in very good looking documents and your clients will notice too.
If you opt to have a professional printer create your documents plan on ordering letterhead, envelopes, labels and business cards all from the same shop so they all have the same look and feel the same.
Office Equipment
Computer: A computer is a must anymore. A small home secretarial service may be able to get away with a cheap computer while a graphic artist will need to spend much more, three thousand is not unheard of. Go online, do lots of research and compare what others have said about a company, its follow up customer service and warranty. An extended warranty is not needed, but a good back up device is – external hard drive or CD burner is recommended.
A laptop may be a better fit. If you go to just about any coffeehouse anymore you will see people with their laptops working. They make their local coffee house their office. Also, if you are traveling a laptop is the only answer. With some businesses, a laptop is a better choice than a desktop computer.
