Be Happy, Now

Do you wait around for circumstances to change before you allow yourself to be happy?

Many people have this preconceived notion of what makes them happy refusing to be satisfied first where they are right now. Even once things begin to change, people are rarely satisfied with them! Instead, people continue to shift their focus to something bigger and better, believing the new “it” will make them happy. People never give themselves a point of contentment, where they feel satisfied. Not being able to find happiness at any stage in life leaves you always wanting and never satisfied. Being happy in the moment does not mean you are to remain stuck, but be finding happiness you actually begin to open doors.

Good news, you can decide to be happy at any time – even if when things in life are perfect. Three easy ways to help find happiness:

  1. Gratefulness. Gratitude is a powerful state of mind you can adopt in your life. Not only does finding things you are grateful for make you feel good, gratitude shifts your focus from what you might feel is lacking to what you do have. As you begin to focus more on gratitude the more you will find to be grateful for. Even the small things will become blessings in your life. You find yourself worrying less which results in less stress in your life. As you continue you will find a more pervasive sense of happiness.
  2. Slow down. Learn to meditate. Take some time in your busy day to smell the roses. If your day is spent feeling rushed or scattered, it can be hard to find happiness or feel content. To be truly happy, you need to take time for yourself to relax, to daydream, or find pleasure in life’s simpler moments. Begin each each day finding a way to make sure you spend some time doing things that bring you joy on a regular basis. Sitting quietly, read a book to expand your knowledge, find ways to stimulate your imagination through art, listen to music that brings peace, take walks in nature, or volunteer to help others in need. Make an effort to enjoy your life as it is at this moment.
  3. It's about the journey. Too many people make the mistake of pinning all of their hopes and expectations on a vague, in the distant result, a goal. People believe that once they reach their goal everything will be just the way they imagined it and they can finally find happiness. However, there is much more to be gained along the way by enjoying the journey. Make it your mission to revel in every moment while working toward your goals. Enjoy the sense of self-mastery and accomplishment by celebrating smaller goals along the way. Make it a worthwhile journey and savor reaching you goal that much more! Love the journey.

The most important thing to understand about happiness is that it is largely a choice you make from moment to moment. Though certain serious situations can make it sometimes difficult to feel happy at times, most often we allow the little things to bother us which block any happiness we could otherwise feel. Embrace happiness, and it will grow in proportion throughout your life!
