Impossible, Just a Word
At some point everyone has dreamed of being somebody special, somebody important. Who hasn't fantasized about being the one who gets recognized for their achievements? How many times have you dreamed of being rich, successful, or happy?
We all dream big dreams with great aspirations. Aspirations of love, money, successful life and more. Unfortunately, our dreams remain just dreams. Why?
This is a sad turn of events in many peoples lives. Instead of experiencing exciting adventures in self actualization, we get caught up in our humdrum lives, barely existing. Often feeling disappointed at the way our lives have turned out.
You know what? Life could be better, if only we learned how to aim higher.
Most common interference to setting goals is the word 'impossible'. People get hung up thinking they can't do something. It's too hard. It's impossible. They believe they can’t do something, holding themselves back. If everyone thought that, there would be no inventions, no innovation, and no breakthroughs.
Some people on the other hand dream outrageous dreams, fantastic dreams, never acting on them. The result? Broken dreams, and tattered aspirations. You need to be setting realistic goals.
People limit themselves with self-doubt, and self-limiting assumptions, and will never be able to break past their self imposed limitations.
Try this very simple exercise:
Take out a piece of paper. Write down some goals. It doesn't matter what they are. They could have something to do with setting financial goals or setting job goals. Whatever they are, separate them into what: ‘you know you can do,’ ‘you might be able to do,’ and you think is ‘impossible for you to do.’
Now strive each day to accomplish a goal under things ‘you know you can do’. Check them off as you accomplish each one. As you check off all of your goals under that heading, try accomplishing the next set of goals under ‘you might be able to do.’
Once these are checked off move onto the goals under things that are ‘impossible for you to do’.
As you go through this process, you will find that the goals you thought were impossible have become much easier to accomplish. What you once though impossible begin to seem possible after all. Take things one step at a time, breaking larger projects into much smaller ones.
The technique here is not to limit your imagination. Let it be bold and far reaching. Aim high, far, and start working towards each goal a little at a time. However, it is also important to not set a goals that is unrealistic.
Those who just spend their time dreaming without working hard end up disappointed and disillusioned. You need to be setting realistic goals.
Thomas Edison once said that genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Nothing could be more true. All that is needed for anyone to accomplish his or her dreams is to work at it and be disciplined. One percent has to be a think-big dream, and not some easily accomplished one and the other 99% has to be the work you put into it.
Dream on! Don’t get caught up with self imposed limitations. Think big, work hard to attain those dreams. As you climb the ladder of progress, you will find that the impossible has become possible.
