Hedge Funds

Hedge Funds are typically open only to a limited number of people and do a wider range of trading or investing than other investment funds. Also, a Hedge Fund pays a performance bonus to the investment manager when the fund does well.

Every Hedge Fund has its own investment strategy, but they are all interested in seeking the best returns for its investors. A Hedge Fund invests in a broad range of investments which can include shares of stocks, debt instruments and commodities.

As the name implies, it seeks to hedge itself against risks inherent in investments using a number of methods, namely short selling and derivatives. Being open only to a limited number of investors, namely people with a lot of money, it is exempt from a number of rules, public disclosure being one of them and from regulations governing short selling, leveraging, fee structures, and liquidity. To investors it has an open ended structure which makes it different from other investment funds.

Is Hedge Fund Investing For You?

No, not unless you are wealthy to begin with. Sorry.

You must have an income of at least three hundred thousand for three years and more or your net worth must be at least one million dollars, or more. You also need to be a very savvy investor to begin with, which means you need to be able to judge all the risks involved with investing for the highest returns possible.

Many Hedge Funds have minimum investment levels and you must have the capital, money, to open an account. Many who invest in a Hedge Fund have over five million in liquid assets and they are looking to take some risk to earn the highest returns they possibly can.

So, unless you are wealthy to begin with investing in a Hedge Fund is not for you. For anyone who is reading this and has that type of liquidity, good luck because not only can you make a lot of money you can lose a lot of money too.
