Brown Baggin It
A number of people who go off to work in an office everyday find bringing a brown bag to work as a source of ridicule. Some view carrying a brown bag as being too stingy. Well, get over it.
Whether we are in tough economic times or not, bringing a brown bag to work each day can significantly save you money over eating out. Don't believe me? Use the worksheet below.
For a week record how much you spend eating out around the lunch hour, including coffee or snack afterwards. Then for another week, bring your lunch to work, keeping track of just how much it costs. Don't cheat! When you track how much it costs to bring your lunch, your time is not counted, only the ingredients to make the lunch.
The Brown Bag Lunch vs. The Eating Out Lunch
Keep an accurate record of each lunch and then compare the two. Make use of the Spending Log if need be. I guarantee that bringing a brown bag to work each day will cost you about half as much, which will allow you to put the other half into savings.
